A Legacy of Excellence on a National Level...

The chapter has continued the streak of being the best of the best as recognized by the national Fraternity with winning a Buchanan Cup at the 2011 Conclave in Phoenix, Arizona. The undergraduates recognize the fact that the chapter has continuously received this special recognition since 1989, for most of them; this is before they were born!

Ohio Theta has won a Buc-Cup in 1961, 1963, 1969, 1989, 1991, 1993, 1995, 1997, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009, and 2011.  This has continued the chapter's streak of having the longest winning streak in the Fraternity's recent history, and has placed us in the top three off all time recipients at 15 overall Buchanan Cups. Join us at one of the alumni events in the fall to celebrate this accomplishment!

A Legacy of Excellence on a Local Level...

The Brothers of the Ohio Theta chapter at the University of Cincinnati are exemplifying what can be categorized as nothing other than, excellence. We have for an unprecedented third year in a row, been recognized as the Overall Premiere Chapter out of the now twenty different fraternities at the University of Cincinnati.  This accomplishment is no act of luck or good fortune.  The recognition comes as a byproduct of the brothers’ dedication to innovating and working harder at any other chapter on campus.

We were also recognized within the all-Greek awards for the individual programs that make us so successful.  We were the winner of the Exemplary Scholarship Award as well as the Innovative Recruitment award. These two awards come from the chapter hosting University sanctioned courses in the house, the tutoring program and the fact that the chapter’s recent 3.33 GPA was better than any other Greek organization at the University for the entire year.  On the recruitment side, it stems from the over 350 BMS Scholarship applicants, 150 home interviews, and the approximately 40 new members the chapter had in the fall, bringing the chapter to a healthy 112 men.

The awards are not achieved just for the recognition but rather as further evidence that the chapter is continually innovating and implementing positive change for the chapter and, most profoundly sustaining that success over time.   The only thing left for us to do now is to set the bar for ourselves higher and continue to innovate and do more, and not be complacent with success.

We acknowledge and thank the generations of Ohio Theta brothers that have come before us and have helped to build this premier chapter into what it is today.

Another upgrade to the house.

Once again for the second year in a row the summer in-house brothers have taken it upon themselves to substantially upgrade the house. Last summer they overhauled the library. This summer is the basement.

These brothers pulled up the old flooring and put in new hardwood planking. Removed the existing wall where the old TV was located to open up the room further. And put in stone pavers as you enter the room from the porch area. This intensive work by these brothers has really made a difference and has continued to show the pride they have for their house.

Dave Wenzel '06 was honored this past weekend at the Carlson Leadership Academy in Chicago. Dave has been serving for the past several years as the President of the Alumni Volunteer Board at Kentucky Eta (Northern Kentucky University). His hard work and dedication was recognized by Sig Ep with the "Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Award".  Additionally he was further recognized with the coveted "Distinguished Alumnus" award.  As far as we can tell he is by far the youngest alumnus to receive this award.
